FACING GIANTS IN LIFE AND WORK
50 Days of Transformation -- Part 8 -- July 4, 2021
1 Samuel 17:1-52
1 Samuel 17:1-7
"Now the Philistines had gathered their forces for war...They occupied one hill and the Israelites another, with the valley between them. A champion named Goliath, from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. He was a giant of a man, over nine feet tall, wearing a huge bronze helmet, and a coat of bronze armor that weighed over 125 pounds. He also wore bronze leggings, and slung a huge bronze javelin over his back. The iron spearhead alone weighed 15 pounds, and a soldier with a large shield always walked in front of Goliath."
I. LESSONS FROM DAVID FACING GOLIATH
II. THE OTHER 'GIANTS' DAVID HAD TO FACE
1. ____________________: HIS DAD HELD HIM BACK
vs. 12-15
"Now David was the youngest of Jesse's eight sons...His three older brothers enlisted in Saul's army...but David was held back to care
for the sheep in Bethlehem."
2. _______________________________: EVERYONE WAS AFRAID
vs. 8-11
"Each day Goliath would stand and shout at the ranks of Israel's army, "Why do you come out here and line up for battle? ...Choose one
man to fight me. If he's able to kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I kill him, you'll become our subjects and serve us." Day
after day Goliath taunted them saying 'This day I defy the ranks of Israel! When Saul and the Israelites heard this, everyone was deeply
shaken and paralyzed with fear.'"
vs. 16
"For forty days, twice a day, morning and evening, the Philistine giant loudly berated the Israelite army."
vs. 23-24
"As David talked with his brothers on the front line, he saw Goliath start shouting his usual threats to Israel's army. When the army
heard Goliath, they all ran away in terror.
3. _______________________: HIS BROTHER QUESTIONED HIS MOTIVES
vs. 28-29
"David asked, 'What's the reward for killing this Philistine and ending this disgraceful abuse?'...when David's older brother heard this he
burned with anger at David and said 'Why are YOU even here anyway? Why aren't you taking care of your scrawny little flock of
sheep? You cocky little brat. I know how conceited you are!' 'Now what have I done?' said David. 'Can't I even ask a question?'"
4. ________________: THE EXPERT DOUBTED HIS ABILITY
vs. 32-33
"Don't worry about a thing,' David told the King, I'll fight this Philistine!' 'Don't be ridiculous!' Saul replied. 'There's no way YOU can go
against this Philistine! You're only a boy, and he's been a professional warrior all his life!'"
HOW TO DEFEAT GIANTS
1. _____________________ HOW GOD'S HELPED ME IN THE PAST!
vs. 36-37
"In protecting my sheep, I've killed both a lion and a bear...The Lord who delivered me from the teeth of that lion, and the claws of that bear, will surely now deliver me from this Philistine too!"
2. USE THE ___________________ GOD HAS GIVEN ME NOW!
vs. 8-40
"Then Saul dressed David in his own armor...But David said, 'I cannot go out in these, because I'm not used to them.' So he took them off...Instead he chose five smooth stones for his sling."
3. IGNORE THE __________________________________________!
1 Samuel 30:6
"...When others were speaking against him, David encouraged himself in the Lord."
4. EXPECT GOD TO HELP ME FOR HIS _______________________!
vs. 45-47
"David shouted to Goliath 'You come at me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord Almighty!...today the Lord will conquer you...and the whole world will know that there is a God! And everyone will know that the Lord doesn't need weapons to rescue His people. It is His battle, not ours. The Lord will give you to us!'"
TRANSFORMING HOW I SEE AND USE MONEY
STORY OF THE SHREWD MANAGER: LUKE 16:1-13
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH MONEY
1. DON'T ____________________ IT!
Luke 16:2
"The manager was accused of wasting his master's possession."
2. DON'T ___________________ IT OR ____________________ FOR IT!
Luke 16:13
"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one, and love he other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."
3. DON'T TRUST IT FOR ________________________!
Luke 16:3
"What am I going to do now? I'm losing my job..."
Proverbs 23:5 (TEV)
"Your money can be gone in a flash, as if it had grown wings and flown away like an eagle."
4. DON'T EXPECT IT TO ___________________________!
Ecclesiastes 5:10
"Whoever loves money will never have enough, and whoever loves wealth will never be satisfied with his income."
Luke 12:15
"Guard against all kinds of greed because your life is not measured by how much you own."
WHAT TO REMEMBER EVERYDAY
1. IT ALL BELONGS TO _________!
"(The owner) enlisted a manger to take care of HIS property."
2. GOD IS USING MONEY TO __________________ ME!
Matthew 6:10-21 (NLT)
"Don't store up treasure here on earth...Instead, store your treasures in heaven...for wherever your treasure is, that's where your
heart will be."

Luke 16:11-12
"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be
dishonest with much. If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you
not been trustworthy with someone else's property, who will give you property of your own?"
3. MONEY IS A ____________ TO BE USED FOR GOD'S PURPOSES
Luke 16:9a
"I tell you, use your worldly wealth!"
Proverbs 14:8 (LB)
"The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fill himself and won't face facts."

4. ONE DAY YOU'LL GIVE AN _______________________ TO GOD
Luke 16:2
"you must now give me an account of your stewardship and report what you've done with what I entrusted to you because your time as a manager is ending!
5.IF I'M FAITHFUL WITH _______________, GOD CAN TRUST ME WITH _________________

" to this who use well what the are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance."
FACING THE FEARS THAT RUIN RELATIONSHIPS
50 Days of Transformation--Part 6--June 20, 2021
Genesis 3:6-19
"...so Eve ate some of the fruit. Then she also gave some to her husband, Adam, who was with her, and he ate it. Immediately, their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover up themselves. Then they heard the Lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from God among the trees. But God called out to Adam 'Where are you?' Adam replied, 'I heard you coming and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.' Then God asked, 'Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?' Adam said, 'You gave me this woman and she gave me the fruit so I ate it.' Then God said to Eve, 'Why did you do this?' Eve replied, 'The serpent deceived me, and I ate it.' ...So God said to Eve, '(Because you disobeyed me) you'll have greater trouble in pregnancy and great pain in childbirth. And though you'll desire your husband, he's going to lord it over you.' Then God said to Adam, 'Because you also disobeyed me and sinned with your wife, the ground you work is now cursed. And though you'll get to eat what you planted, your fields will have weeds, and thorns and thistles, and for the rest of your life you'll have to sweat and work hard to get your food until you yourself are returned to the dirt that I used to create you.'"

You must love the Lord your God with ALL YOUR HEART, and all your SOUL, and all your MIND, and all your STRENGTH."
UNDERSTAND MY EMOTIONS
Genesis 1:26 (NIV)
"Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness...'"
TWO EXTREMES TO AVOID:
EMOTIONALISM: _________________________________________________
STOICISM: _________________________________________________
WHY I MUST LEARN TO MANAGE MY EMOTIONS

Romans 12:2 (NLT)
"Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think."
WHY I MUST MANAGE MY MIND
#1) Because my thoughts________________________my life!
Proverbs 4:23 (TEV)
"Be careful how you think; your life is shaped by your thoughts."
#2) Because my mind is the ______________________________ for sin!
Romans 7:22-23 (LB)
"I love to do God's will so far as my new nature is concerned; but there's something else deep within me that is at war with my mind and wins the fight and makes me a slave to the sin within me. In my mind I want to be God's servant, but instead I find myself still enslaved to sin."
#3) Because it's the key to ___________________ & ____________________!
Romans 8:6 (NLT)
"If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace."

> 3) The world's _______________ system
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
"Though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. Our weapons have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish any argument and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it OBEDIENT to Christ."
HOW TEMPTATION WORKS
James 1:14-15 (NLT)
"Temptation comes from the lure of OUR OWN evil desires. These evil desires lead to evil actions, and then the evil actions lead to death."
4 Phases of temptation:

Setting Personal Goals by Faith

May 16, 2021
WHY ARE GOALS IMPORTANT TO CHANGING MY LIFE?
1-
Philippians 3:12-15
Paul: "I know that I am not yet what God wants me to be. I haven't reached that goal, but I keep moving toward it to make it mine because Christ made me and saved me for this. I know that I haven't yet reached my goal, but there's one thing I always do. Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead, I keep my eyes focused on the goal so that I may one day win the prize that God has called me to receive through Christ in the life above. All of you who are spiritually mature should think this same way too."
2-
Matthew 9:29
"According to your faith will it be done to you."
3-
1 Corinthians 9:26 (NCV)
"I do not run without a goal. I fight like a boxer who is hitting something--not just the air."
4-

WHAT KIND OF GOAL DOES GOD BLESS?
3 questions to ask:
1-
1 Corinthians 6:20 (CEV)
"God paid a great price for you. so use your body to honor God."
